I'm learning to add some color here and there. A little red in the kitchen, some purple in the bedroom. That goes a long way to liven up all the cream, gold and brown in EVERY room. (I'm not even kidding). I'm trying to work turquoise in somewhere now, maybe the living room! I know this sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how fast we forget that when we go shopping for home improvement. So we decided on a color scheme for the walls, and based all furniture off that. It's working rather well for us. Sometimes it can take a while to put it all together especially if you're not Bill Gates and can afford anything. Buying a little at a time makes us ask ourselves if it's the right purchase.
