I know not everyone likes Barbie and what she stands for, but I do.  I think this is a great idea and if I had a Barbie I would so be on my way down there.  Dressed up as a princess.  You know, like every Saturday.

Recycle Barbies for a Good Cause
by The Arizona Republic

Families with little girls are invited to bring previously loved Barbie dolls to Walmart stores from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Valley for a special one-day Barbie Cares event.

For every doll received, Barbie will donate a new doll to a local children’s hospital. Up to 100,000 new Barbies will be donated to children’s hospitals across the nation. This Barbie Cares event is the latest Barbie initiative to explore toy recyclability and a fun way for families to contribute to a more sustainable future. Girls will also be able to meet Barbie herself in select Walmart toy departments.

Participating Walmart stores include 4747 E. Cactus Road and 2501 W. Happy Valley Road, both in Phoenix; 15355 N. Northsight Blvd. Scottsdale; 21655 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway, Peoria.;5605 W. Northern Ave. and 18551 N. 83rd Ave. both in Glendale; and 1380 W. Elliot Road in Tempe.

Customers are encouraged to bring a digital camera and dress their girls in princess attire to take pictures with Barbie. Attendees will be given a coupon for a free photo. Other Barbie-themed giveaways will also take place, while supplies last.

This event is free to the public

Seriously, folks…

November 3rd, 2008

I haven’t been posting because I can’t find any happy news in any of the main news outlets.  I searched AGAIN today hoping against hope that I would stumble across a story about kittens or heroic firemen or a couple who had been torn apart by war only to meet one day 50 years later in a coffee shop in Debuque, Iowa discovering that their love had never really died, but had only grown stronger over the tormenting years of utter loneliness and rejection… gasp, sigh.  I didn’t find any of these, sadly.  Though wouldn’t it be cool if I did see the one about the war torn couple in love tomorrow?  Creepy. But kind of cool, too, I guess.

Anyhow, I did find this.  That’s good news, right?  Right!?  I’m off to search some more.  Hopefully I can post something legitimate tomorrow…

    About

My name is Shari, just left my twenties and I finally feel "old enough". No kids, just a great husband who is different from me in just enough ways to keep it interesting. We don't have any pets, but reading through just a few posts will reveal that I'm obsessed with all things kitty related. What else? Born in the midwest, raised from age 6 out here in the Southwest, I love all things old fashioned, but I can't go a day without my google reader.
